What you’ll be doing:
- Reviewing financial statements and delivering insights to clients
- Preparing management reports and helping clients make sense of their numbers
- Supporting junior staff and reviewing their work
- Getting involved in planning, advisory, and value-add projects
- Offering practical tax advice and spotting opportunities to improve client outcomes
What you’ll bring:
- 5+ years in a NZ Chartered Accounting firm
- Experience reviewing work and talking directly with clients
- Solid understanding of NZ tax (Income Tax, GST, FBT)
- Familiarity with tools like Xero
- A proactive mindset and a genuine interest in helping clients succeed

Are you an experienced accountant looking for real flexibility and balance?
We’re a long-established accounting firm in Whangārei with a strong reputation and a supportive, friendly team. We’re looking for an intermediate accountant to join us for between 30 and 40 hours a week – let’s chat about what works for you.
Whether you want to work during school hours, take time off during school holidays, or mix in some days or evenings from home – we’re open to making the role fit your life.
You’ll work with a wide range of clients – from farming and manufacturing to retail and hospitality – helping them grow and succeed.
Your role will include:
- Preparing and reviewing financial statements
- Preparing management reports
- Supporting clients with tax planning, budgeting, and business advice
- Managing jobs and workflow to meet budgets and deadlines
You’ll be supported by a collaborative team and a stable leadership group that genuinely values work-life balance.
What we’re looking for:
- 3–5+ years’ experience in a New Zealand CA environment
- Great communication skills – written and verbal
- Strong Xero skills (or keen to grow them)
- Solid tax and technical knowledge
- Someone who’s proactive, organised, and enjoys solving problems
